Both are real workhorses, but both are also old machines. The 8000 was released in 2008... the 6001 in 2009. These are important, because the longer a machine has been in service, the higher the likelihood that it's going to have parts availability issues down the road. Once parts are no longer available, you'll have a very large paperweight on your hands.
You should think about a 6002/7502 instead. Those are newer machines, and you'll have parts available for a longer period.
If your option is between the 8000 and 6001 for a print shop deployment I would suggest the 8000. Check out the history on this site concerning fill issues on the 6001, there are adjustments you may need to do to keep the solids dark after a long run for the 6001.
It's still a 12 year old machine. Duty cycle and maintenance specs are still in line with the other machine...but you're looking at a unit that parts WILL become an issue sooner rather than later.
PERSONALLY, I wouldn't recommend installing a machine that's older than 7-8 years, because you're going to wind up having to replace it within a couple of years...simply because a fuser roller, control board or bearing is no longer available from any source.
I would try to stay away from having a "only one unit out there" situation so if you have other mp 6001s in the field at least
you have a reason to stock extra parts or even buy a cheap parts unit in case you ever get a major board failure.
If you buy either I would get all the seals and foam pieces to change as they disintegrate wth time.
I use to be able to buy all the mp 6001s i wanted but very few mp 8000s so i wouldnt touch a mp8000
