Re: MP2851 won’t scan Win 10 only on 1 computer

i have ran into an issue before that for whatever reason it wouldn't allow me to scan to the existing scans folder. but whenever i setup a new folder with all of the same permissions it worked. haven't seen it often, but that has worked for me. just an idea you might try if nothing else works.

MP 2851 scanning to folder fine on other 4 computers.

I have tried every trick I know to get this new one scanning but no go.

    Firmware updated
SMB 1 turned on in Windows features
    Enable Netbios
    network sharing on
    Created new user (scans, password)
created new shared scan folder (read/write everyone and scans)
    turned off firewall and antivirus
tried computer name and IP address for path

it just sits there waiting no transmission error or authentication error

I know I can use FTP or email but since the other 4 work on folder they would prefer
    this to be the same.

    What am I missing?

I shared this a while back, but if you're creating an SMB scan folder on Windows, this has always worked for me.

    Manual SMB Walkthrough (Windows Computer)

Creating a hidden user for the copier (Windows “Pro” Versions only)

    - Right-click “Computer”, and click on “Manage.
    - In the left side panel, select “Local Users and Groups”
    - In the right panel, double-click the “Users Folder”
    - Right-Click and choose “New User”
    - Give the user a name, and a password, then Un-check the “User must change password” box.
(example- User Name: scanner Password: Passw0rd!)
    - Uncheck "User must change password", and Put a check mark in “User Cannot Change Password” and “Password Never Expires” boxes.
    - Click the “Create” button, then close the New User dialogue box.
    - Right-Click the user you just created, and select “Properties”.
    - Click the “Member Of” tab, click on the word “User”, and then click the “Remove” Button. Then “Apply/OK”. (This will hide the new user name from any Welcome Screen)

    Creating a Scan Folder

    - Open up “Computer”, and Double-Click the “C:” drive.
    - Right-click and select “New Folder”, and name it “scans”.
    - Right-click the “scans” folder and select “Properties”.
    - Click the “Sharing” tab, then click on the “Share” button.
    - Select “Everyone” from the drop down list, click “Add” and make it able to Read/Write.
    - Click the “Share” button.
    - Click the “Security” tab, and click “Edit”, then click the “Add” button.
    - Type in the name of the New User you just created, and click “OK”, then check the “Full Control” box.
    - Click “Apply/OK”, then click “Close”.
    - Right-click the “Scans” folder, and click “Send To/Desktop” to create a shortcut.

Windows Firewall Settings to allow Scans

    - Click “Start/ Control Panel”.
    - Double-Click “Windows Firewall” and on the left side click “Advanced Settings”
    - On the left, click “Inbound Rules”.
    - Scroll down to “File and Printer Sharing”, select all the ones related to “SMB-In” and “NB”, and Enable those.
    - Scroll down to “Network Discovery” and Enable the ones related to “NB” as well.

If the customer is using a 3rd Party Firewall (Norton/McAfee/etc.), you'll need to have them get in touch with the vendor to find out how to configure it to allow SMB scans.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Hope this helps.

    .

Thanks for all that and to everyone else who responded, you guys are the best.

I’m not sure if it matters but when I created the new user “scans” I didn’t do it through the Manage function, I believe I just did it through: control panel, users.

as far as the sharing and security I did those just as you suggested.

I will be going back tomorrow to try again and will report back afterwards.

Also a very simple one but make sure this new PC is on the network as PRIVATE and instead of PUBLIC. I ran into this literally a few days ago, very easy to change on windows 10.
Right click on the network icon at the bottom right of the screen (next to date and time) Click Open networking and Internet settings, then Change Connection Properties. Change to Private.

Perdonaré mi consejo, pero me resulta útil repasar algunas cosas aquí, cuando hacer lo anterior hecho por usted no funciona. Por ejemplo, en el centro de redes y recursos compartidos vea la imagen
