Ricoh mp5001. Black pages, half print after drum, charge, dev
I had a device come around. It has no print on copies/scans/faxes. I replaced the drum, charge roller, and developer. It improved to where I was getting solid print on a 3rd of the page. I did a panic stop and it is only putting on a 3rd of the drum. I cleaned everything up pretty well. I opened the laser assembly and cleaned the little bit in there, and the glass.
Let me know what you guys think.

How about the transfer assembly? Do you have any sample documents to show us?

Get someone who knows what they are doing as the MP 5001 has no corona, so no grid to clean.

1. Throw the machine through the window.
2. Pick it up, reconnect and put it on
3. Is it still working? Repeat from start untill point 4.
4. Total loss? YES! Now you can sell him a PRINTER, and get this piece of crap to the nearest dumping ground.

I can get test sheets later. And I forgot to put that it is only printing on a 3rd of the drum, the end in the rear. Transfer assembly may be the next step.

If it's only writing image on 1/3 of the rear of drum, I would suspect laser unit (this is what creates the image on the drum). Do you have another machine you could swap lasers to test??
The Transfer unit is there to "pull" the image from the drum onto the paper, and has nothing to do with "image creation", only "Transferring".
Is your laser slit glass clean? Is there an obstruction between laser and PCDU path? Quenching lamps clean?
Also, check the contacts on the rear of the machine (springs that can get bent - has happened a lot) and on rear of PCDU (clean/ not bent). Towards front of PCDU (if you split it in two) there's a metal shaft with a contact plate touching it. Make sure it is not missing or covered in toner/developer.

Let me guess, you had toner spew from the toner supply tray. You thought some of the toner may have gotten in the laser unit so you removed the laser unit, took it apart and attempted to clean it. Bad idea. You most likely failed to first vacuum the toner piled up between the laser unit and the PCU. That toner is blocking the laser. Completely clean that area so there is no toner left that can fall into the laser unit when you remove the shield glass to properly clean it.

I had this issue a few times, due to bad drum grounding

It was a bad connection with the drum bearing ground. A quarter turn more on the screw got it perfect. Thanks for the brain storming guys.
