    SC 442 CODE

    Hi
    I just got a email with a mpc3501 that shows a SC 442
    dirty or bad ITB sensor..
I looked at my parts manual and it only shows the whole ITB unit and cleaning unit.
Is this the sensor that detects the handle is locked?
    I never seen this code.
    thanks

Check the ITB contact motor in your output checks.

If it is the sensor that I think it is, it might be located above the ITB on the rear frame near the on-off motor for the color transfer rollers, possibly on the same bracket. It reads the encoder strip near the rear edge of the belt. More often than not the sensor is just dirty from dust/toner or the encoder strip is damaged.

When I get this code I normally see a torn belt or shredding along the edge. Usually just replace the belt and cleaning unit for good measure. Also a messed up ptr unit can cause too.

The ITB (Image Transfer Belt) Contact Motor Moves the ITB into contact and away from the color PCU's

You will have to remove the controller box to get at that motor. The sensor is mounted on the motor assembly. Clean it and if you are lucky----it's fixed. In my experience replacing that motor is usually what works though. I think the part# is D0891199. The sensor is included with the motor.

Its most likely just a ripped belt, best to go see the fault before thinking about the worst case scenario.
