    Aficio mp 4000

    Hi Everyone,

I have an unusual problem with a Ricoh mp 4000 that is stumping me.

Copies from the table glass look passable (the client claims they are degraded, but not as bad). Copies from the doc feeder are light then dark in the middle then dark again. For instance, if I make a copy of the meter page, the right and left corners of the triangle are extremely faded. Density in the center inch of the triangle is great.

Prints are fantastic. So my guess is something optical. I cleaned all the mirrors and the slit glass, but cannot figure out what else could be causing it.

    Thanks,

    Me

The supporting structure of the scanner can become bent resulting in poor CQ. Try lifting up the front left corner of the scanner while copying and see if the CQ improves. If it does you may need to 'tweak' it back up until CQ holds on it's own.

Check the PM counters too. I have seen where a print looks good but a copy looks bad and all that was needed was a PM.

after cleaning the optics, did you run adjustments? and did you clean the scanner white plate?

Since copies from the platen glass are not showing the same problem, I would say that the DF is not setting level on the glass.

If you mean the metal plate that the paper passes over through the adf. Then yes (it was already cleaned). I could not find any automatic adjustments on the machine or or in the manual (admittedly, I did not look very hard).

did you look in the manual for "white plate"? it is a small white strip UNDER the platen glass area... between the slit and platen glass on the scanner frame. ANY time I worked on a ricoh.. and cleaned the scanner area. Did you clean both sides of the glass?

and yes a 'torqued adf will also play into this problem.

    Re: Aficio mp 4000

    saturday i happen something similar

clean the optics, but nothing, followed the copy but the triangle well.

lower the laser and clean up all etc mirrors, without removing them, eye.

    better improvement

but since, lower the unit of the lens, remove the black plastic cover, and in the ccd there is a small glass, clean it, it was dirty.

    the copy was spectacular

on another occasion it was the white plate that goes in the glass, it was yellow in some parts, I got white paint, paint, and voila.
