    Savin 9090 print quality problems

    Hello Ladies and Gents,

I have a savin 9090 that will print a large black line on the lead edge (or trailing, not sure) and squashes the rest of the print on the page. I recently replaced the transfer belt, blade, and anti-static plate as a response to this issue.

It only does it for the first print. Successive prints look fantastic. Or if I let the machine rest for a few minutes, it will print on bad sheet and the rest fine.

I will upload a post of the print soon.

This is a very common when the charge corona needs to be rebuilt and possibly the drum needs to be replaced. The surface of the drum cannot reach full charge before the first sheet.

I thought it had something to do with the feed...

Any idea why the image is squashed?

Compressed and blurred image could possibly be loose drive coupling on the drum shaft. I can't say I have seen it on your specific model, but on earlier models like the Ricoh MP5500 it was fairly common.

Alternatively the drum motor could be weak and jitteriness until things get moving.

    So...

I have replaced the drum, drum blade, and charge Corona unit. No change.

    Any other suggestions?

Zed suggested the drum drive. Look on the back of the machine for the drum drive. It will have the flywheels bolted to it. Take them off and make sure set screw is not loose on the drive itself. Changing the drum itself will have no positive effect on the drive to it.

The drive is nice and tight doesnt seem to be any slippage.

the most recent print looks like this:

While you have the fly wheel off, check the continuity from the drum shaft to the frame. It should be less than 10 ohms, preferably less that 5. If not, either the drum shaft ground plate (B070 3685) modification has not been done, TSB#039, or the conductive bearing in the drum shaft stay is no longer conductive. The bearing is not available so the drum shaft stay (B070 3680) will need to be replaced.

I checked the continuity from shaft to frame while I had the drum unit out.

I use diode check for that.

The was none from chassis to shaft.

I assume that tsb#039 is some sort bulletin.

I have no Ricoh support, and do not know a way to access the bulletins.
