Please help me. I have a big problem. I have Ricoh Mp 161. The problem is that the images comes out gray and weak. The images quality is poor. As a result to this poor quality, I changed the following parts into the PCU.

1- the drum + the blade
2- the Developer powder ( type 28 original)
    3- the developer gears.

I did developer initialization once I changed the developer at first I got error C392. Then after few tries I could do developer initialization. The first couple of pages came out with very poor quality. I did Toner supply order but this didn't solve the problem. When I add some toner into the developer tank manually, the images comes out with very good quality till the toner quantity finishes. I have doubts about the TD sensor

I used another new CPU and it worked fine. I can say they the machine doesn't ask for toner for a reason I don't know. I put 170 grams of Developer powder. Wasn't this enough? I searched a lot and no one could tell me how much developer had to put so I put 170 grams.

Could any one help me stop the automatic of TD sensor so I can let the machine use specific manual values hopefully I would find out if the TD sensor is the problem. I need help guys. I have been searching for few days.

    thanks
It better to use genuin drum unit not only because of developer etc but after few copies gears warn and even if you replace them developer cover then and destroys them again.
I don't know if there are relaible compatible and cheaper drum units . For example for af 2022 there are no relaible compatible drum units.

There are compatible pcu for mp161, 2027 and other color models, they cost almost half of the original and make half the pages

Go to sp mode 2221. Tell us what all the readings are and also tell us what your copies/prints are at the current time of the readings

You can change toner supply to fixed mode to bypass the TD sensor. It is under process SP mode, like 3440 or somewhere around there, at least it is on a 6003.

How much developer do you put in your MP 161? I put 170 gram. Is this much or little?

170 grams is fine. Or half a bag of ORIGINAL RICOH TYPE 28. That works perfectly

    Re: PLEASE HELP. Ricoh 161

when i use to spend a whole day just rebuilding 220 and 1022 drum units the one thing i found is they could NOT handle and "over toning and
using too much developer powder..always go light on developer..
    it s plastic gears right?
I though one could also use a type 1013 drum and just swap td sensor..
I dont see too many of these and rather deal with the color series..

Give it up. The 161 was introduced over 12 years ago. Time to get something newer model.
