    This.

The machine will suspend the update if it needs to and try again at a future date. If it happens several times, it might be awhile before the machine actually will update, but it will eventually update.

Do you mean the Automatic Remote Firmware Update? Yes the first color series were the 04's

First Black and White series were the 55's I think.

Good thing Ricoh finally came out with it, because it just was not getting done the old way.

What happens if it auto updates firmware with a problem, does it roll back to previous firmware on its own?
I have had some pretty bad issues with some IMC 5500A models that have Equitrac embedded on them. We got told to update the firmware, it made it far worse then about 2 weeks later a guy from Ricoh phoned me and said yeh we just realised that is not compatible with PCC 5 or something and was asking if I could go back to roll back the firmware (luckily a hotfix was put on so I didn't have to in the end)
But if one of these auto updates and it makes a huge problem, then surely I'm screwed until I can go back there to reverse it?

I work almost exclusively with these types of enablers, and have found this to be a rare, but not an unheard of problem.

I've even seen firmware updates break Ricoh's own software, such as GlobalScan and Streamline, not just other vendors.

The best preventive solution is to test the new firmware on an isolated machine, or even several, before rolling it out to the masses.

It's a real mess to have to roll back firmware on a few hundred machines. I had that happen twice at a very large account a few years back. No fun at all.

so you are wanting to update firmware on a machine for a financial institution and yet you don't know if the copier has access so you can update the firmware from the copier itself? ummmm your best bet would be to call a ricoh tech. financial institutions have to stay on top of the latest firmware as they get hit during an audit if they dont keep up to date...

I was able to go into the service mode and did the update there. It was really simple and only took about 40 mins
