It is not uncommon for the teeth on the side rails that allow both rails to move together to get chipped. This allows both rails to move to either the front or rear by as much as a half inch. This increases the chance of the edge of the paper to run against a guide elsewhere in the paper path, such as the entrance to the finisher.. Take a known good tray and try swapping.
