    Device setting up Questions

Can some one answer this question please ?
1-All devices on LAN required an ip address necessarily, you do not need one to print to the device .If the answer is yes or no... explanation would be helpful !
2-A port redirector helps you to direct the print job from a local port a network destination? If the answer is yes or no... explanation would be helpful !

    Thank you all !

yes all devices need an IP address or they won't be able to print or scan using the copier. and the copier needs it as well in order to use those functions from PC, phone, tablet, etc.

    Re: Device setting up Questions

I had a doctor's office once where the doctor kept changing ISP and the associated router. This often meant a change of the subnet. DHCP would keep everyone on the same subnet after rebooting but the IP of the MFP would change. I finally decided to set printing up using device NETbios name instead of IP address. Therefore:
Yes all devices require an IP address
No you do not need the IP address in order to print to the device if you know its device name.

Port redirection was a way to allow older DOS programs to print to network devices. A DOS command line command, often in autoexec.bat or the launch file for the program to "set" a DOS port name, usually lpt3 to the IP address of the printer as an environmental variable.
