    Ricoh MP C4500 SC202

would like an opinion on this, had sc202, the screen is fine, so i think no issue with BICU, checked earthing contacts to duplex unit, all's well, PSU seems fine also, after removing and cleaning polygon motor, it came to ready and i copied about 10 pages and then the error occurred again, convinced its the motor, but i have a dilemma, the primary and secondary motor part numbers have been discontinued, which leaves me the option of ordering a very expensive laser unit, am i overlooking something of is it definitely the motor ?

95% of the time I have had to replace BICU & polygon mirror motor at the same time. 95% of the time!

Have you even tried an internet search for Ricoh AX060396? Precision Roller has them in stock for $214.95.

I have a feeling that he has the original parts catalog from before TSB 037R where the motor and the driver board were separate parts. Motor part number was AX060318.

I have not mucked around on that model but if i was you i would see if you can part out a mp3300 or mpc3500 laser unit and see if motor can connect and fit.
Many years ago i use to take apart panafax FAX laser motors and clean the pivot point where the laser spins on its axis..
I would not 200 to 300 on a maybe that will fix it, if it was me..

Wow..for a second there I thought this was a 10 year old thread.
A quick look at Google would have lead you back here anyway....it's an old machine with a common fault.
As Hadster said...make sure you swap out the BICU and the polygon mirror motor at the same time.

I'd try the motor first, then the BICU if need be. If the BICU is fried it will not hurt the motor. Some BICU's can be fixed if you can find out what got fried. We used to call Hytec, sometimes they can tell you what component to check and replace.

That was only if you had a blank display but could still see the SC 202 by shining a flashlight at an angle across the screen or by going into WIM. If the display is not blank, the BICU does not need to be replaced. If the display is blank and you do not replace both, it could blow the one you replaced.
