Hmm.. yeah.. microfiche. Brings back memories; some bad.
One time I was working on a 4000 (old selenium drum analog machine) in a warehouse with no air-conditioning up on the 5th floor (no passenger elevator either, so stairs up and stairs down) along with the light not being very good and the machine had popped its scanner cables. So trying to position a flash light, look at the viewer and restring those scanner cables correctly all the while sweating like crazy was quite the task. Finally got them rewrapped and the machine working and got out of there. Nasty. (This was circa 28 years ago or so).
I don't miss stringing those cables, used to be a pretty regular thing once the machines started getting old.
When I started fixing copiers I had half a trunk full of manuals, then we went to microfiche which was much better, now we have it made with all of the laptops and smart phones.
