Ricoh MP 201 NVRAM Removal Procedure

    Hello

Have a MP 201SF that had a SC547. I followed all the advice here and found no resolution.
(plugged into different power sources, swapped the Power Supply out, swapped the drum unit)

I was then fairly certain it was the BICU Board and swapped it with the same one from a parts machine.

Question: I don't see how I can remove the NVRAM chip, it appears soldered in, is it?
(I know this is why I am getting the SC 901)
And if not soldered how best to remove it without damaging the pins? ( I see where this is very easy to do).

Lastly, do I really need to swap the NVRAMS if I don't care if the copy count is wrong? I can sell it and let the customer know the correct count.

Also, do any BICUs have a fuse or fuses? Would have been nice just to have to swap it or them out...

    Thanks

As far as I can tell the BICU nvram isn't soldered in, there is a replacement for it in the service manual that just says remove it, it seems quite a large one too at the top right of the board. Use a long, small knife to push under the chip to lift it.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Thanks guys, I think I am looking at the right chip, it does say NV right on it.

Any response to my question as to whether I really need to do it?

That is, as long as I tell the customer it was replaced and what the real count is does it make any other difference?

Easy to replace. It's Pretty standard chip as on most models, so there's no reason not to swap it over, and to the best of my knowledge it either has to be replaced with the original chip or a brand new one. I don't believe you can use a chip from another machine.

Thanks for the diagram - I was looking at the NVRAM chip on the BICU Board - I see you are showing the one on the Controller. I don't have a problem with the controller. I'm referring to the big board.

Oops...My bad. Sorry about that. I should have read your post more thoroughly.
Although looking through my manual, that chip is supposed to be removable as well, but I don't believe it's absolutely necessary to swap it.
Are you sure you've reconnected everything properly? SC901 is typically a mechanical counter error. Maybe that connector was missed?
Are you sure the board was ok before it became a "parts machine"?

What have you done with the fusing unit? Bad Thermistor maybe?? Bad Hot Roller? something unplugged?
Did you RESET the fuser error code SC547 by going into SP Mode and then turning the power off on the machine?? If you don't do this, the code will just stay there upon every reboot.

As far as the NVRAM, take a really small flat-head screw driver, and stick it between the NVRAM and it's seat, and pry up gently. Do that on both open sides of the NVRAM to get it out without bending the legs.

I am wondering how you decided that you needed to replace the NVRam in order to correct SC547 which is a zero cross fusing error?
