Well that all depends on what your after or the environment you want to put the device in.

The 5100 is a production version which is a generation older than the 6503 but

The 6503 is a office version

5100 supports fiery where the 6503 does not

6503 has newer technology than the 5100

6503 is more reliable than the 5100

The environment is Light production.. probably less than 50,000 pages per month. A small Print shop that outsources most product but needs better in house resources for 1,000 to 3,000 piece runs.. The unit needs to be able to print full solids. Full solids is absolutely critical need.

I thought I've seen an e22-b as an option for fiery ??

The answer is no. Unless you have made a typo, twice. The Pro C5100 is part of the product line that includes the MP C6502 not the MP C6503. The production model and office model are built on the same mechanical frame and are similar but also have major differences. See attached. In addition they use different upstream and downstream peripherals.

    Re: MP C6503 Pro c5100

Agreed. The Pro 5100 and MPC 6502 are the same generation. The Pro 5200 and MPC 6503 are the same generation. The newest is the Pro 5300 and IMC 6500. The engines in each series are similar but the pro models have Fiery standard and lots of little internal differences to make them have better quality especially with thicker and unusual stock, glossy included. Also the 5100 and MPC 6502 were the first generation and have had LOTS of bugs to get worked out, the newer units are more reliable. That said I would NEVER put an office machine in a production environment EVER, if they are picky at all you will regret it. Even if it's light production. Even if it has the optional fiery. The fiery cannot compensate for paper like the Fuser and other improvements of the pro engine itself...

Thank you for the very insightful input. I guess the answer is wait for a PRO C5200 to come off lease.

im just wondering if they have jobs that are 1,000-3000 pg runs, why would you out source that? why not get a good production machine (pro C5200) and keep it all in house? or even a step backwards with a pro C5100? with a fiery on either one that you decide to buy. with the Pro option you would probably open your business to more jobs... just me rambling..

An outsource company just did 3000 8.5 x 11 4/4 on 70 lb offset (28 lb bond) for .04 per piece folded. That is impossible to beat. That was printed offset. At .04 per 13 x 19. That still is .04 for print and haven't even paid for the paper.. The only thing printing in house does ... is allows faster Turn Around. Which isn't always a competive advantage...

Every school district that I serviced machine at would disagree with you. They did the numbers and found that hiring someone to run their internal print shop and leasing a production MFP cost them overall 1/4 what the state wanted for preprinted material and about 1/2 what out sourcing to professional print shops. And that pricing included the price of the paper.

UMM.. Did you see the math I just laid out? Have you hear of click counts lower than .04 per side for color on 13 x19. oh yes . . . Some Hi Volume accounts get into the mid to high .03... but .. still the PRINT cost is .04(or .035) for a 2 sided 8.5 x 11. full color. Then the sheet must be cut down, folded.. oh and you have to buy the paper. There is NO savings in that scenario.. There maybe in others.. but not that one.
