    MP 301 False Add Toner

We've replaced PCDU x2, hopper x3, bottle x2, and motor, and the message keeps coming back (all within a couple month period and absolutely nowhere near yield). Any advice is greatly appreciated!

are you properly cleaning the tubes out?

what is the life on the dev units? have you even looked at them?

genuine OEM toner? 3rd party has these problems

    - I assume the machine asks for toner while the bottle is still not empty

    - The motor you mention is the toner motor?

    - If you reset the error with SP2928, does the machine work okay (good print quality, no strange noises) until it asks for toner again?

We had loads of the 301 PCDU's fail at a stage (some as early as 5k prints). Developer pushing past the seals and damaging the development unit drive gears and why we ended up using PCU1515's on these machines. Have you opened it up to check? Can usually spot it immediately because the hopper and everything gets clogged up. And obviously toner low message with a full bottle installed. Also had some hoppers not grabbing the toner cap properly so the bottle stays closed, when that happens I usually remove the cap myself and tell the user not to touch the machine till I can return with a new hopper.

The PCDU’s have all been out of box unused. Definitely genuine OEM toner. The hoppers are from other machines.

    New toner bottles.

The motor was the toner motor (directly behind bottle).

    Good quality, no noises.

Looks like there was a toner spill inside the machine before the frequent replace toner issue.

Re: MP 301 False Add Toner

I've copied my own reply from this thread:MP 301 toner condition

One thing you've not stated is if you're actually running the dev calibration, but whatever the case...
When the machine is on an "add toner" state you need to clear the message first before replacing the PCU.

Here is what I posted on the above thread:
I've experienced this before. When installing a PCU into a machine where the Unit has failed due to chewed up gears, failed TD sensor, or whatever the case, and therefore starving the unit of toner.
Simply replacing the unit and running dev initialization often doesn't calibrate the unit properly and the add toner condition comes back shortly after.
So when replacing the PCU while in an "add toner" condition, first run SP2928 (toner end clear), to clear the message, and then install the new PCU and run Dev initialization (SP2801)

Thank you all! I believe the issue was not executing 2928. Still have the machine in shop for testing but will fill you in if anything else occurs.

Well, unfortunately it came back. I quadruple checked hopper and bottle function. As I run full bleed, test pages do get lighter so I'm digging into the PCDU now.

    Am I understanding you correctly?
You've done what was suggested, and now, in order to test the PCU, you're running continuous "skyshots" (or full bleed), and are surprised that the machine is going back into "add toner" after a period of time?
