When the cleaning crew moved the machine, the cable got pinched under a caster. It wasn’t completely open or shorted, just enough to cause a problem.

The link lights were good, and about one out of four ping attempts worked...maybe less.

If the customer allows it, try plugging your notebook into the same port with same same cable and IP address.

That’s what I did at the time. A new cable did the trick.

Agree ping them -t for about 5 minutes. If any significant and frequent delays the network is compromised.
Might be your printer(NIC) port(in many cases built into main board) as well

but will not print and scan. I checked the network port, connected machine to a working port (which was working with an MPC3004 connected) and still nothing.

I get the orange light on but it will not do anything.
I tried the Ping command via the Ricoh and a PC, nothing.
Reset the network back to auto too.

The network port on the copier is all OK, pins are not bent, and have tried another ethernet cable too.

    Any ideas?
Check the network board connector on the controller. Moving the machine if the cable is connected may damage the bent or unsoldered pin connector on the board. It happened to me more than once in clients, simply when someone tripped over the network cable.

    This.

I usually also try to lower the machine's network speed from 100mbps to 10mbps - if it helps, then it's a cabling/conector/switch problem.

Yeah that's my guess here, too

Thank you all for your advice.

It was the ieee802 that had been activated, thus stopping the wired network from use. Why it was and who did this I don't know. I never thought that this would be an issue as the copier
doesn't use this facility. But thank you to mga for the information.

Someone thought they could enable WiFi with it. IEEE802 when Ricoh over priced internal WiFi interface is installed. It is also used for some high end authentication systems.

Also some customers with security in mind just go and flip every switch that vaguely resembles "stronger security", and then are surprised when the machine stops printing and scanning.

I had that happen with an MP301 (I think) about 10 years ago.

Part of a large machine rollout at a factory; it was in a dirty little shipping dock office.

It took a few hours to find that one.

Turned out a noob in our setup department had no idea what he was doing. No other machine in the rollout had the same issue.

I can't believe I forgot about that little adventure.

    Just getting old, I guess.....

Yeah, great fellow tech mga to the rescue once again

As network settings become more and more complex maybe sometimes it's not bad idea to do network settings reset and start from fresh.
The amount of time tech use to redo network setup from scratch may be significantly less than finding hiden 'trap' in some cases.
