Fact is that the competitors are using this argument:
"not to contact anyone, anymore" - to close a deal...
"The machine will contact us itself, for whenever what it needs. So you will have no worries, it will all happen without any of your valuable attention..." And so on...
In fact i, and many customers, kind of like this idea...
I know you should keep in touch with customer, but you can always pick up the phone, or drop an email to ask him/her if he/she is still satisfied...
As someone that's been in sales for many years, that argument is easily overcome. And if it does become a deal breaker, just agree to do it that way. No biggie.

But it's terrible selling point. Would you rather have a spare toner on location or wait for them to bring it? It's a no brainer.

@remote properly setup will take care of the problem. Never depend on the customer to call you in time to prevent down time. When you have multiple people using a machine, most will not even notice the bottom of the screen alerts. I used to get frequent calls from martini customers when the cleaning web had ran out. They had paid notice to the near end message.

That's so right Slim. You know the fundamental fact is - Never trust what customers told you. Use every tool you can to bypass them. I'm not saying all customers are bad or even lying you but I believe in what I see or machine tells me at first and after that always give them chance try to proof I'm wrong. Sadly...almost always they fail.

That's a lot of waste and Money your talking about, which is why I also place another label in many of my machines indicating to "not replace toner until entirely depleted and machine stops"
(I'm big on instructions for my customers )
I change SP 3110-1/2/3/4 all to zero & SP3-100-02 on all my Ricoh kit this will only show toner low from the output of the hopper sensor. So when when the hopper is empty so will the bottle be.

    Thanks for the tip!
I often just set 3110 much lower than default (20 or so). I like my users to have a bit of warning, but the default is much too high in most cases. I've had several instances where users tell me that "it had been flashing for a couple of weeks so we just changed it". So I figure if they're going to do that, I might as well cut my losses a little bit.
Interesting how it only seems to happen with my customers that are on Maintenance agreements, and not the ones that are paying for their supplies .

That said, I hadn't noticed or paid attention to SP3-100. That's something I might consider.

Even setting SP3110 to zero they still get a low toner warning it won't go straight to toner end.

Toner End Detection can be used to turn off Near End warning display. SP 3045-002 on older models and 3100-002 on newer models. Toner end will still be displayed based on bottle ID chip and toner end detector on bottle nozzle. Depending on the model, toner end display gives the customer 50 to 100 copies to replace the bottle before printing is disabled to prevent developer depletion.
