The flag moves feely , i have not checked the sensor in sm mode but i will do so when i get back there. Also the tray is not broken. I have a service manual, did not have it with me at the time.
This message is on the machine not on the PC.
I have had entry level machines where the switch would go bad and cause that. If I didn't have a switch with me I would bypass the switch so the customer could use the machine until I could get back the nest day. Just told them if they got a jam message to check if the paper was out before calling me.
