    Encrypting the HDD

I had to encrypt the HDD on a Ricoh devices recently, was wondering what will happen if the encryption key is lost by the customer.

If they ever need to replace the HDD, they will have to pay for another HDD encryption option.

You need to print out the encryption key in user tools save to sd card or print keep safe in copier somewhere

A recent case we had earlier this year involved replacing the controller on a MP 5054, was unaware that HDD encryption had been enabled, and customer lost the key.
Once controller was replaced we got the message "SD card required for restoration". This is where you set up an SD card a certain way with the Encryption key on it, insert it into slot 2, and let it do it's magic. BUT, if you don't have the encryption key, then you'll have to do the SD card setup with "nvclear" on it. This will format the Hard Drive, and reset certain settings.

The Point being......Don't lose the key once it's been enabled!
