Why don't your share YOUR previous thoughts and comments on FTP?
You mean the fact that you are the only IT person that recommends FTP. Every customer IT that I have worked with over the years, and there have been many, consider FTP a security risk on their networks. And you are the one who is hilarious and still an idiot.

FTP has been discussed so much that I did a little homework for myself.

FTP is considered an insecure protocol because it doesn't use encryption.

However, Filezilla can be connected to use FTPS which is considered secure because it uses encryption.

My 2-cents, for what it's worth.

How to connect with FTPS using Filezilla – Support

Thats because YOU don't know what your talking about.
You dont know the difference between internal ftp and ftp external.
Glad I could I could help explaining to You again.

Again its an option a solution a fix that's what real technical people do.

    thanks.
Yes you can scan VIA SMB same as you can with Windows.

I have a MAC at home on OS High Sierra I scan to it on a MP C407.

Re: Mac scan to ricoh MP 5004 or MP4054

For general (end)users of Apple MAC vs Ricoh, I would strongly recommend to use scanning via SMTP. If possible (just remember that older models support only plain text SMTP port 25).

If you need to scan big files (for example 600dpi uncompressed TIFF), you can still use USB drive.

But I know, that´s not that comfortable.

So if you are still end user and want to use some direct over TCP/IP protocol - I would chose FTP app server - there are plenty of them on APP store, some paid, some free (I have one I use for customers in my depository). It´s just simple app (daemon running in background) and showing in your bar the status. It is also mapped to port 2121 with created user/password. This is still the third simplest way how to scan big files directly on LAN. FTP is not secured but believe me, you will never be able to manage FTPS even if the Ricoh supports that. No way, trust me.

    The last thing is SMB.

For the older MAC OS up to 10.14 (not sure exactly) it is quite simple as some post above.
For the newer systems (since two years ago) you need to DISABLE packet signing on the MAC. That´s the new security feature, which prevents Ricoh copiers to save files using SMB protocol. Win systems are good, but Macs must be altered via the terminal and SCUTIL.

    commands are as follow:

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.smb.server.plist SigningRequired -bool FALSE
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.smb.server.plist SigningEnabled -bool FALSE
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.smb.server.plist SMB1SigningEnabled -bool FALSE

sudo /usr/libexec/smb-sync-preferences (this one will probably say that this service is not running

Since 10.15 you have to add this commands:

    echo “[default]” | sudo tee -a /etc/nsmb.conf
    echo “port445=both” | sudo tee -a /etc/nsmb.conf

And also do not forget to use command to switch the auth. metod for copier

SMB CLIENT AUTH 3 (or the highest possbile)
    SMB CLIENT PORT 445
    LOGOUT
    YES

Re: Mac scan to ricoh MP 5004 or MP4054

    SMB, scan to folder issues:
    - Sometimes when updated versions or updates come out for iOS and Windows, scan-to-folder may temporally stop working.
    - Firewalls exceptions often have to be re-tweaked to authorize the MFP’s IP addresses.
    - Due to better network security these protocols change. F.i. tuning off SMBv1 and SMBv2 and only allowing SMBv3. => Many MFP’s are no longer able to scan-to-folder except when manufacturers support SMBv3.

There are a number of FTP options for Mac OS that can be downloaded if you wish to go that way.

Another option that should work are scan to a memory device.

I don't know if WIM can be use with Mac or if it is only for Windows. If it can be accessed then you can scan to the internal document server and use WIM to retrieve the file(s).

thanks, I have to reopen this case for research again. As for what i understand last time i did a research also and found out that MAC has quit smb.......or something. I'' try to run a mac os on virtualbox and do a test there...thanks

    Mac still supports SMB.

Just one amendment, I don't know if you are aware of that, but if you are on LAN and bonjour is not disabled (by machine, switch or computer) - you can even use Airprint (secure) to scan documents. Good about this is that it sets itself automatically, the downside is that Airprint scan is not a PUSH scan, but PULL scan (same as twain/WIA driver). Also, bonjour/airprint is not a routable protocol, it will not work outside of LAN. It cannot pass gateway.

Great tip, I just tried this it works a treat, had to add a second install of the printer via AirPrint then I get the scan option. Thanks.
