    Difference C2051 vs C2551, only board "D1065725"?

    Hi, new question.
I know the MP C2051 and MP C2551 is practically identical.
When scrolling through the parts list I find one controller board that is different between those two variants, namely D1065725.
Is this the only difference between these models? And, a question to copier tech, is the firmware the same between these two machines?
I cant really find any description in the service manual about this.

    Thank you
Yes, I saw this in the service manual.
    Ok, so same firmware.
Then there need to be some difference on the boards telling these two controllers whether it is a 2051 or a 2551.
This can be a hardware thingy, like a pin on one of the chips connected to ground or 5V for example to tell the chip/controller whether it should pretend to be a 2051 or a 2551. Or some embedded firmware residing in one of the chips.

I had to open my machine again to have a look. I can't se any obvious (P)ROM chip on the board.
    Investigating further....

Just so you know you can't make a PCB work on another machine that it's not meant for its not a case of just swapping a chip

Let's do it the other way around. Say we have a working 2551. Then we start swapping parts from a 2051 into the 2551, except the controller board ofc. At what point/at which part swapped will the 2551 stop working?

    With the controller.

All other parts are the same

how many times have we had a user tell us he swapped boards with another machine, just to find he used a SLOWER board on a faster machine or vice versa?

    Too many times....

    Ultimately what's your point?

I know I can be a pain in the ass sometimes

Let say we swap all the parts from the 2051, except the controller, into the 2551. Then the 2551 would work all fine, after all the adjustments ofc. And it would still work like a 2551, right?
So, we now have a huge pile of parts from the 2551 laying around, and a very sorry looking 2051, in fact the only part that the 2051 now consists of is the main controller. We now start to put together the 2051 again, pulling parts from the pile we have laying around after the 2551. After a lot of work we finally get the 2051 rebuilt and start it up, do all the factory adjustments etc. And this machine will work like a 2051, right?

What we have really done with all this work is we have swapped the main controller, right?

Where is the flaw with this line of reasoning?

I don't say with any certainty it will work, I am just trying to make a thought experiment

no it would function as a 2051
