    C5503 SC 681 11-14

    Hi, All. I hope your day is going well. I am having intermittent 681 codes on a C5503. The manual describes sub codes as a "device error" I know that the sub codes 11-14 point to the offending toner color, but I cannot locate a reference chart anywhere, and I need it to keep from chasing my tail on this one. Can anybody tell me what colors go with codes sc 681-11 to 14? Thanks, Mika.

    SC No. Level Error Name/Error Condition/Major Cause/Solution
    • When abnormality occurs at cable connection
    • When error notification was received during communication with the
    tag and operation is not resumed after 3 retries.
    There was an error during (wired) communication with the ID chip on the
    toner bottle.
    • Replace the toner bottle.
    SC branch number:
    01, 06, 11, 16, 21, 26, 31, 36: K
    02, 07, 12, 17, 22, 27, 32, 37: M
    03, 08, 13, 18, 23, 28, 33, 38: C
    04, 09, 14, 19, 24, 29, 34, 39: Y

    11=K
    12=M
    13=C
    14=Y

    Think i got this problem with a 3003 one time and it was the chip on the toner in that case.

    Thank you, I appreciate the response. This helps. May I ask where this info came from? I scoured the manual but did not find this.

    The last digit of the subcode indicates the color when the main code has to do with color. In the Engine Charge/Development codes the manuals does break it down by color. As an example SC312 Charge Roller HVP_CB Output Error. Why the manual writers/proof readers/editors did not carry that same standard into the SC600 code range Engine Communication and Others, I have no idea. I did notice that in the 300 range the order is KCMY and the order in the 600 range is KMCY. The chart that Daniel_B81 posted is at the bottom of the 681 Troubleshooting. I have 2 versions of the Service Manual, one downloaded in September 2013 and the other in May 2016. In the 2013 version the SC Branch table is on the next page. There may have even been a preliminary version.
    SC branch number:
    01, 06, 11, 16, 21, 26, 31, 36: K
    02, 07, 12, 17, 22, 27, 32, 37: M
    03, 08, 13, 18, 23, 28, 33, 38: C
    04, 09, 14, 19, 24, 29, 34, 39: Y

    hi
    I WILL add this that i have had codes that would point to a bad magenta chip and it turns out to be k chip.
    I keep sets of toner chips at the ready just for this dreaded 681- codes.
    You can also pull all 4 toners repower and add one toner at a time till it codes out.

    Thanks, that sucks but it is good to know. I'll keep that in mind. I originally had a magenta error that has not returned since I replaced the cart. The cyan error I recently had has not returned, but it has only been a few days. These codes will go away for a month, then return 2 days in a row, and then disappear for a while. Intermittent issues are a pain.

    there is probably more than one faulty chip, it happened to me last month on a 2004, two compatible cartridges, but the original ones could also
