You mention an "older" version, what Word file type is it (doc or docx) ?

File protected; i don't know that.
Older i mean created with the mpc2800 as default printer.

That’s a really old trick, but it may still work.
Sadly enough, this is still a thing with many applications...

For a long time, I had a team that used Crystal Reports, which would store the printer in the report settings. Every time they upgraded printers or had to go to a different office, they ad to create a new report with a new default printer to get everything to print correctly.

I feel your pain and have fought this battle a few times with Crystal Reports. Also with a piece of software called Chiro, which is used in chiropractic offices which loves to confuse the mfp.

But still it will print from tray 3 instead of the tray we have selected at the preferences.
Did you change the tray selection in page format?

Slim, good thought, i will inform customer to try this, because now is "use printersettings" selected.

Did you install an new print driver or are you still using the wrong model print driver for convenience?

I've seen such issues with Microsoft Office applications, where individual documents save print settings from previous print sessions, even on other PC's. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Have you tried a complete uninstall of the print driver and its port, then reinstalling the driver and recreating the port (with the same address)?

    I don’t mean a simple “right-click and delete”, but a real uninstall?

I know that there are other utilities to do so, but Kyocera has an uninstaller on their site, which will safely delete all leftover files and registry entries that a “normal” uninstall would otherwise leave behind.

That cute little utility has helped me out a bunch of times.

Ken, this can be the issue. The IT'er did not allowed us to do anything at all on "his" network. Even my instruction to use another IP address, he refused. This IT'er is so frustrated that he himself could not have sold a new MFP that he now is boycotting the installation!
Such "treatment" by IT'ers is very common these days. Very frustrating!

Re: printer preferences from old machine to new machine

Anyway, at our office we have no issues at all with (very) old Word doc's that have been created with - f.i. - a mpc2500.
We can print this without any problem on a mpc2003.
So, it could be that the same IP address of the old machine is the issue!
    Bad IT'er !!!
