MP 2555 drums not making life

    Howdy folks

Got a MP 2555 that keeps taking out charge rollers. First drum made 120k. Next drum 40k. Machine is now at 200k so drum failed at 60k. Last call we did install a new transfer roller as well. We always use entire PCUDU. No rebuilds.

Charge roller is always contaminated with toner. Last drum i took apart and there was a line of toner in one spot of the cleaning blade like it was dusting out. I cleaned that drum up and charger and put in a different machine and it didn't make a week.

Anybody else seeing this? I feel like Ricoh is just sending us crap drums.

PM counters are only to be used as a guide.

PCU life all depends what the customer is printing, how much toner coverage, media type/weight etc etc.

I always rebuild these PCDU works out cheaper.

I assume you are using genuine Ricoh toner?

We use Ricoh toner. Customer is not doing anything funny media wise with these and i have other machines that have less monthly volume than this and are older and have never had a drum replaced yet.

Sounds like drum charge roller fault. I would think ozone build up can contribute here. Are machine exhaust filters clean? Is it in dusty/hot/humid environment? Clean drum memory erase strips(leds)?

You have no way of knowing what the client prints.

Classic example a school will copy book pages with the DF up etc.

What size paper are they running the most of? The PM counts are based on letter long edge feed. They are also based on a minimum number of clicks per job. For a 55 ppm machine that number is going to be at least 20.

When you replace the drum are you doing a full PM with new blade, charge roller charge cleaning roller and developer?

They run a tandem so it's long edge feed. We don't rebuild those drums. We just replace the entire unit. Drum and DV. Power off, replace, power on. Machine calibrates.

Checking the PSG for the MP2555, it shows 1 P/J should yield 94k pages. 3 P/J it should yield 120k.
    The MP6055 1 P/J yields 82k and 4 P/J is 150k.

Anyways ill slam another drum in and hope we have better luck.

You propably have a bad air flow inside the machine client must be using a lot of duplex side, replace all filters and check air flow and check developer unit for overtoning

Re: MP 2555 drums not making life

I don't like this series - we also struggle to get acceptable PM cycles with some customers. I noticed that this series is also pretty sensible when it comes to paper quality. Some paper brands/types makes the drum surface dull or paper dust can end up at the cleaning blade causing issues of all sorts.
