    MP C3004 - SC995-03

    I have a MP C3004 with a SC995-03 code. This machine is at a customer location and has been functioning fine until this morning.

    It says machine serial number doesn't match or the controller is defective.

    It just seemed a bit strange to me as no work was being done on this machine, it's not like i was messing with the controller or anything.

    So is there something I can check or look at first before going through replacing the controller on this machine?

    usually (as you said) that error occurs when the controller is replaced, and the procedure to return the serial number must be performed (see manual) or when the wrong controller is mounted (e.g. ex controller on non-ex or vice versa ), but since it is not your case, neither one, nor the other, I think about nv-ram faulty, controller faulty, or try the machine with hdd disconnected, I'm not very confident, but you never know, it might maybe there is no possibility to enter sp mode, with that error behind it

    Unless you have a proper power device installed in front of the MP C4504 it may have been hit with a power surge or RF line noise that scrambled the NVRAM and/or the HDD.

    Try reseating all the controller connections, clean the RAM contacts & update the firmware is where I would start.

    I started with redoing firmware romdata, and then package. Machine was functional when I left.

    However customer said it would work for a day or so before coming back. So no call this morning so far.

    If i get a call I will check/replace HDD and if it still persist I'll give in to replacing the controller.

    Also, I reckon I should have them put it on a surge protector.

    With any controller type error its always worth updating the firmware before replacing any hardware.

    Hopefully you resolved the issue.

    This forum is full of techs replacing controller boards etc when a simple update could resolve the issue.
