    Why?

Never had any dirt problems with the belt - it lasts until it tears.

Guess wet cleaning, especially with warmn teperature might also loosen the mylars that are attached inside the belt at the outer endings.

We are in a process to refurbish a used Ricoh MP C2003.
Since it had accumulated a lot of dust in and around, we are thinking of doing so if it can help.
We did think about the mylars getting damaged but are unsure about its glue coming off, so believe its worth a try as we have to replace the Belt anyways.

We use compressed air (Datavac Duster) for refurb work. Back in the days (Aficio CL7000, AP3800C) the transfer belt assys needed way more attention & labour time to rework but I think that's not the case anymore.

the best way to clean a belt (or drum) is to polish it with "Silvo" - note, do NOT use 'Brasso' as it is significantly more abraisive

i don't know what it is called around the world, but here's an Aussie link

remove the itb-clean unit (screw x6),I prefer bland glass products, example the classic multipurpose, without remove the belt from the frame, just to remove with a light rag away that possible tiny oxide layer, more than anything else it is important to vacuum the belt cleaner well inside the blade

i suspect the one you pictured is the 'brasso' variety, far too abrasive

in Australia there is Brasso designed for polishing brass which is rather abrasive and not to be used - silvo however is very much finer and is designed to polish silver, it is perfect for drums & ITB's, it also removes contamination from PCR rollers that nothing else will touch and the hydrocarbons do no damage - been using it for 35+ years

actually this is the one i use, i must have copied the wrong link earlier

My experience has been that any cleaning the surface of the ITB belt needs is accomplished by the ITB cleaning unit. Remember the belt is not metal. Any type of metal ware cleaner can have an adverse affect on the surface from abrasion, chemical action and leaving a film. You also run the risk of releasing potential poisonous vapors.

Re: Cleaning the Ricoh MP Colour series transfer belt

Thank you all for your suggestions, I appreciate.
Since, I have some discarded Transfer belts, I might do a test run with a dishwasher liquid.
It may damage the belt but I shall try and inform my results, accordingly with

    1) respect to cleanliness,
    2) Mylars condition and
    3) Print condition (if the above two conditions are good).

If I am late I shall start a new thread to provide details.
    Thank you.
