    Scanning large files to email

I have a MP 5000 at a large state university that is having problems with files over 2.5 mb. It is set up to divide any scan to email job over 2024kb into multiple pdf files. When it divides the file it is no longer a pdf and comes out jibberish. If I set the size limit to 5mb and the job does not divide it is ok. On our MPC 2550 in the showroom I get a different result, the job never shows up on my email but says completed on the copier.

    Any ideas?

The machine has a "Divide and Send" setting that can be utilized for email servers with caps on the file size. If the divide and send is on, you will get two or more separate emails with smaller files. These need to be combined back together using a utility from the manufacturer's website. If you have divide and send off, the machine will prompt you that the file size is too big and ask if you want to cancel or send as smaller jobs.

You can even switch off the max email size (User Tools - Scan Settings - Send settings).

When the email has left the machine (Machine reads 100%), then the problem might be your email (smtp) server.

The Max email size on the machine should match the size set on the SMTP server. Large emails can tie up the network.

You never realize how cheap a professional is until after you let an amateur do it.

    After further research

I did a search on Ricoh's web site and found that divide and send only works for single page pdf's. Multi page pdf's will not work. My customer is using multi-page pdf as the default.

    Thanks

Eric's right on this, turn off the max email size and it should be fine, assuming that the gibberish file which is sent is a .dat extension.

You could also back down the resolution to make the file size smaller...
