    Angry MPC 6501/7501 (D081/D082) SC 360, SC 410 and SC 496

I decided to post this thread here because in no sub forum dedicated to this product.
I have recently received 6 or 7 units like this, all of them 6501 in my territory all of them having not even a month in field.
This one started the day with a SC 496 at 7:47 and very light image and continued in one hour with SC 360 and SC 410 and again SC 496, 410, 360.
Machine has 2 weeks in field and meter reading shows K:19507 and Color:424
Customer is boiling and they placed a rush call.
At my arrival the machine was in a very undertone condition for Black...all other colors OK.
SC 360 on the screen and any attempt to clear the code and to print SMC report failed so I was forced to clear the code, reboot, do a forced toner supply cycle for K once, do 3820 Procon Exe Density Adj...and at the end 2111. Corona unit was partially covered in toner (toward the front of the machine) sign that the unit was leaking toner. I cleaned and reassembled the unit after I vacuumed all the toner in excess. Only after this I was able to print a SMC report.

    SMC reports was showing:
    2263-01 TD Sn Chk Disp Vt:K 2.29
    2302-01 Temp/Humid Disp: Temp 21
    -02 Rel Humidity 25

    3574-01 Target Poten:VI K -600
3802-01 TD Sn Init OK? KMCY 1111

    Last 2 - 4 56999999
    Last 5 - 10 10101010

After all this I was able to recover the machine from the under toned condition but I got background and small blotches on every sheet and still the K density was not good enough.
A brand new unit and a new bag of developer brought the situation to normal....but this fix is very costly...In this case was the only solution to calm down a customer that was almost to explode....These situations start happening very often, customers are very sensitive to the machines down time...
They are paying tons of money for a top of the line color MFP that fails no longer than 20K and suddenly they have no printer, no copier, no fax or scanner so their frustration level is reaching the roof very easy.
In my case today I was able to escalate the situation and I received immediately assistance from 2 of my managers so I got a brand new unit from a not yet preflighted machine, because the D082-2214 part is not yet in the system.
It is my third experience regarding bad TD sensors...2 of them with D014 machines and this 3rd one with D081...It looks like is no improvement in between the TD sensors, they are very sensitive and are failing very easy with no chance to recover the machine.

Does anybody has a similar experience and or a fix to this problem without replacing units and devs ?

    Hi,

It seems to be common thing now. I have had exactly the same problem today but after 150K so ordered 4 DEVS as all colours bad . I had tried power pack but no success so dev only will be a cure for it as already tried one.[

I have over 100 hundred of these already to deal with, First thing - doing a forced toner and 3820 - may get you out of the door....but you will be back VERY soon - dont do it. Make sure only D081 devs are used (not D014). If the dev fill or setup goes bad and you have anything other than 1111 on both you WILL have trouble. Make sure you have a good vacum and plenty of rags when attending these machines - also carry charge rollers with you at all times. I also advise to replace all the air filters (3x2 of them) on the rear LHS of machine VERY often. Good luck!

I can't even post a thread on this machine without messing up! To those of you who have success with this product, what is your secret? This product is a continuation of the frustration of servicing the AF 3260C and the MP C7500; it has proven to be a difficult product to achieve good results with. TSB's 10, 13 and 17 are critical to any success of setting up thse machines. Last week I installed a brand new (NOT REBUILT) Black Drum/Dev Unit on a MP C6501 and followed the setup to the letter. The machine indicated SP3811 (Dev Setup Execute) had failed. SP3812 and SP3817 showed that the Black Dev had setup OK. Never do SP 3811 and SP3801 together, and only do one of them once, until the next developer replacement. The Black Drum/Dev Unit takes so long to rebuild that I keep a spare in the shop for rebuild (away from the customer site and to help minimize down time). Be sure your firmware is up to date.

Hi All, this metis is a toner pig. I thought i got away from the c6501 and c6000 but our territory just got rearranged and now I have 10 of these POS in my area. I have great success on them by cleaning all 4 pcus and itb ID sensors and connectors when you get a copy quality issue. After you cleaned the machine, run the normal procon sp3820-001 (Normal Procon). The ones that really mess up just replace new developers and charge roller and do a sp3900 reset.

Ricoh-USA has put out quite a few bulletins on image quality and toner scattering on the C6501/C7501. Attached are the 3 primary ones. The important things are to remove as much od the scattered toner as possible and to check that the SP settings for each Development Unit are correct.

Also attached is a document that was given to be by my then regional rep when he gave some initial train on the first 2 C6501 I had to install, I was scheduled for classroom train 2 weeks later. The first 9 pages are on 20-50 ppm models. The 600-75 ppm models start on page 10. The settings slight reduce the toner concentrations in the development unit and compensate for it by slightly increasing the transfer currents. This makes for less toner remaining on the drums and ITB and therefore slightly less waste and a cleaner machine.
