    MPC4500 Scanner Option Missing

    Hi Guys.

Long story short, customer wanted scanning set up, but they had no idea of their user names and passwords or SMTP settings, it's all handled off site in Texas USA (we're in NZ) so I emailed their IT for details. Over night he's logged in to set it up remotely, only to find that the scanner section through the WIM is missing. I've just been in now to replace the drives, as the menus where quite sluggish and figured it might have something to do with it, but alas still no scanner option. I've tried logging in under admin and same story. On the device itself the scanner option is available. I've rebooted numerous times and checked the DIMMs, firmwares up to date. Anyone had this before? I'm thinking controller, maybe the SD card. Yeah, I'm pretty much clutching at straws here.

    Thanks for your help.

Dude, you mean scan to email? I dont think there is a "scanning" section as such in WIM - isnt SMTP set up under "email" or "file transfer" menus? I cant remember the exact menu names but Im sure its something like that.

Scan to folder is set up in the address book area I think but been a while since I had to set it up.

Not very often I see another kiwi on here....!

      Cheers Smee.

To date, I've set up precisely zero devices for scanning via the WIM, I always do it at the device, so have taken the bait on this red herring. Interestingly though, the guy sent me a screen shot of a MPC2051's WIM, and it has the scanner section there with 'send settings' which is what got me stumped originally. I checked on my 161 at home and there's no scanner section there either (I best look into that lol!) Can anyone confirm the differences on the WIMs?

I'm not a Kiwi, just a Pom pretending to be.

      Cheers

        They're nearly identical

Sorry, should of been clearer. Does the MPC4500 have no scanner section on the WIM versus say a MPC5000 that does. I'm trying to establish wether I have an issue with the MPC4500 not showing the scanner option under the WIM or if its the same for that model across the board.

          Cheers

I still have no idea exactly what you're asking for or trying to accomplish.
The scanner destinations are programmed by simply logging into WIM, and creating 'address book' entries (IE: name, key display, folder authentication, path)
We're not splitting atoms here. Seems to me you're overcomplicating this

Forget adding scanner destinations, I already realise I was barking up the wrong tree. I seldom use the WIM, as I've always set up at the device itself so unfamiliar to the layout.

My issue is that on one machine, the MPC5000, there is a section for scanner (just below the fax section) and on the MPC4500 there is not. Indeed, it's not of the atom splitting variety, just the I.T guy wants to know why this is the case, he suspects there's a problem and is making quite a noise about it, and at the moment I have no answer for him.

Ahh...so he's playing the old "I'm in over my head, and have no idea what I'm doing, so let's blame someone else" game.

"Why is this the case" he asks?
Because it's a different machine! (what a winner this guy sounds like!)

1: Just as I mentioned earlier, the WIM is practically identical to your MP161 WIM - no "SCANNER section"
2: If the scanner button on the machine itself, activates the scanner feature, you can pretty much bet that there is no other problem with it (other than configuration issues)

I know you loaded the twain drivers right.

MPC4500 and MPC5000 are not the same. MPC4500 goes with the MPC3500. MPC4000 MPC5000 replaced the MPC 3500 MPC4500. Check to see if remote scan is disabled in the Scanner SP settings. Scanner SP1009 and SP1010 should be set it 0 for enable. Also check to see if machine was initially set to use ScanRouter.

So there's physically no function key to get into the scanner application ? when you go into user tools is there a scanner features soft key ??

WIM of MPC3500/4500: No scanner section in WIM

The controller of the MPC2800/3300/4000/5000: Scanner settings in WIM.

So yes, the WIM is different on the newer generation controllers of the mpc2800-5000 range.
