The connector for the PCU on the rear frame of the machine is possibly damaged. I'd try another PCU in it first - swap it with the cyan or yellow to fault find.

Fyi, on the machine I went to as well as the photconductor message, I could also see low toner messages for multiple colours. Most of the tubes where close to empty. So before worrying about the pcu message I fitted new all four tubes, and the pcu message went away immediatley. The machine has not called back and that was over 3 weeks ago.
I know that some recent bulletins make mention of false add toner conditions and recommend the latest firmware.
