Unhappy Ricoh C4500 scanning to Windows 2012 via SMB

My client just upgraded their server to 2012. We are trying to setup the SMB scan destinations.

I'm 99% sure the paths, authentication, etc are correct... as they have not changed much from the old server (2003).

I'm reading online where there is some mention of the Ricoh C4500 not being able to scan to a Windows Server machine due to SMB protocol issues.

Can anyone confirm this... or possibly give a work-around?

    Thanks,

    Hugh

Windows 2012 is not supported, and there are no plans to update this model to support it; it is too old.

There is custom firmware, but it isn't available on MyRicoh. You can try scanning to FTP or email instead.

Most likely you need a firmware update for SMB scanning to work.

Get a tech to update the firmware or set up ftp scanning.

Thumbs down Re: Ricoh C4500 scanning to Windows 2012 via SMB

Thanks, guys! I was afraid of that. Tech said they don't have a firmware update to fix... and I hate the idea of FTP with clear text passwords. Maybe we will setup email... but once again sending secure data over and insecure channel.

Guess they need to update the MFP.

The firmware mod's for the SMB security were made to the MPC2800/3300 series and up. Unfortunately, these ones just missed out.

I have taken to having people to use a NAS box or similar to use instead when they are adamant on scan to folder. Most of the smaller network option externals run off a tiny version of linux so there is no issue with security.

I looked on the TSRC, there is custom B222_Network Support_v520_LRC0451_SDcard firmware listed to fix SMB-based GW functions to work with Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012

Have your techs take another look.

Your profile shows that you are located in the US. Firmware is available on rfg-esource but not TSRC. Click Search - Product Code B222 or B224 - Firmware/Media Type = Special/Custom. B222_NCS_v5.20_LRC0355either SD card or remote. All Ricoh products that can do scan to SMB have updates available. For the older models that do not show Win8 update in the firmware history it is a Special/Custom firmware. Most models it is available on both rfg-esource and TSRC, but some only on one or the other.
