    Aficio MP4002 Coy Quality

Anyone out there having any issues with overtoning on this series? I've got one with only 92,xxx clicks and the Vsp is .20 or so with background/overtoning symtoms, I just changed the developer and there was no difference, drum ground is good at 1.3 ohms, changing bias and charge roller voltage back and forth showed no dif. either. Any thoughts?

Mag roller clean? Charge roller clean? Contacts on rear of transfer unit/machine body clean? ID sensor clean? Quenching lamp clean? Yield on the developer is 300+K, but half the time it doesn't make it. Terrible machine.

I don't know why you say it'd a terrible machine? I have over sixty of them (MP4K,5K,4.1,4.2,5.1,5.2) and I have great luck with them. I use N/A Tradings type A toner in them and have ZERO
under or overtoning issues. N/A's toner actually works better than OEM Ricoh. As long as they are set up correctly and the N/A gorund tab is added they run like a champ. Maybe I'm just lucky?

I went there today and swapped, to test the drum/ developer unit and still had some background. with original developer/drum unit in if i change the bias settings (sp2-220) to -700 the bias voltage doesn't change as measured/metered at the output of the power pack and front of developer unit. is this normal? I think not as I measured on a mp5001 and it does change. Any thoughts?

I would not mess with the dev/drum/ charge bias if you got new drum/dev fitted.Just make sure all the bias contacts/transfer belt are clean and you initialize the dev/drum the correct way. After fitting a new dev turn the copier on with the door open so it doesn't adjust the toner density before you do the TD setting and put the default values for bias before you do anything.

    Re: Aficio MP4002 Coy Quality

I have never liked these machines the LD040/050, the 140/150s and the new style 4002/5002 all built the same and run the same. The quality on these imo has always been crappy compared to others the, either you get light shades, grey backgrounds or even at its best you get a clear image with speckles on the paper, its also the only model I come across where the mag roller at pm look like its covered in black tar. I have seen dirty mag rollers but this machine beats all it is as if it was melted on.

Most of the time the grey back ground or shading can be caused from the dirty mag roller. I just had one of these yesterday and was asking myself whats the trick to getting these to run with any decent quality. Per the manual if you replace the pcdu parts as well as the develper.

First you have to put a piece of paper between the hopper and dev unit so there is no toner mixing before you initialize.
    (drum procedure)
SP 2001 has to be at default setting i believe 1500
    Run SP 3001-002 ID sensor
    Run 2805 Process
    Run 2810-001 Greyscale

    (developer procedure)
    Run 2801 Developer initialization
Remove sheet of paper from hopper.

A few more steps then most of the other models when replacing pcdu parts, I also think the web roll on this model was a little to overbuilt for its purpose takes like 20 mins to take that web assembly apart you when you can do a 6002 web in like 5 mins. I will say for the most part I don't get a lot of service issues most of the calls i get are quality problems.

Do you remeber MP4000 and faulty toner 6-7 years ago?
Ricoh have released new toner with "A" letter in the name to solve problem.
This is the same issue in my humble opinion.
Synthetic toner particles stick up onto developer particles and TD sensor mesurement is faulty.

At the moment in Poland we have few tens of cases with toner overfilling. Ricoh Poland tries to collect data from field and escalate problem.
Someone says that problem occurs only with toners bottled in France.
