Ricoh Firmware Update Tool - Processing Status: Error

Hello!, I was super happy to find there'a a tool to automagically download and apply firmware updates to my MP C306Z. It successfully recognized the printer and downloads firmware bundle (D1969781a) but after moving forward it just ends with:

No local to the tool logs show anything of value.

Anybody had any luck with it?

There have been a bunch of Update Tool failures lately on entry level models. Read some of the other threads in both Ricoh forums.

After power cycling the printer, I'm stuck at 99% of a new attempt of upgrade (1 hour and counting)

There are recovery procedures in other recent posts. If you have the time to wait an hour, you have the time to search the Ricoh forums.

You’ll find its easier & safer to update the old way via SD card.

You can also update the apps too which you can’t with the tool.

the tool uses rfu files, which have different extension of what romdata (fwu) uses. Are there interchangeable?

NO!!! But you can push them to the MFP from WIM, one file at a time. There is at least one other method that I have seen quoted recently but have never used it. See post #7 in this thread: IM4000 stuck on "Waiting for firmware update data"

Interestingly enough, I managed to reproduce the printer hung status pushing the first file through WIM using web upload.

If any type of custom firmware is currently loaded on the machine, the RFUT will not work right.
