[Misc] RICOH MP C5502A Random SC code 633 Malfunction: Ext. Charge Unit

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum.

I have a RICOH Aficio MP C5502A printer. It keeps throwing an error at random times with code SC633.
I read the docs and it says this is an external counter device error. But I didn't find any visible external counter (such as a coin holder) on this machine.

On Web Image Monitor this error appears as: Malfunction: Ext. Charge Unit.
I have absolutely no clue about this. It can't do any printing with this SC code.

I checked the information in SP mode, SP5-113 has been set to 0.

Can someone help me out with this issue?

An external accounting device is very seldom going to be something as large as a coin box. It is more apt to be a mag card reader of some type. If it is previously owned, the original owner may have had one installed and did not remove internal components. Another possibility is that cob webs or dust bunnies may be causing intermittent shorts on the IOB where the COUNTER INTERFACE UNIT would connect. Updating firmware might hep as well.
