Looking for advice. same as Muratec MFX-4555.

I have a friend/profitable customer. They bought SCX-6545. They had constant black lines via the scanner glass. Many times I could not find anything on the glass, but they had lines. I replaced scan glass, scanner unit, main board, etc. Finally I replaced the machine with a new one. They are getting lines with the new one. They had a Konica-Minolta and Panasonic from me and never had this issue. Any one had this and/or how would you address this?

If you can isolate it to the scanner, I'd start with the white reference, image memory, CCD, then the CCD ribbon cable. The only two remaining possibilities are the HDD, and the PBA main controller.

From the looks of the parts diagram all those first four items will come as the scanner assembly (other than the image memory). =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

It is the Muratec relabeled and I've been working with them. They don't have any know bugs that firmware would cure. No patches for this. I will check the version this week and update if needed, although I find it hard to believe two new machines could have the same problem at the same client. I have about 20 of these in the field and they are the only people complaining. A law firm with about 5 office workers or more. It's brand new, so worn parts are not the issue. Can it be their originals? They won't accept that explanation anyways as they have been my client for 10 years with the same type of documents.
I tried the mylar on the glass and that did not work. Would lowering the scan resolution help? I think its at 300dpi. I rolled a loaner SCX-6345 in there and they did not complain of black lines, but they did not want an old model.

    Thanks for the input guys.

So you're not going to do any of those things then? Or did you want your solution on a silver platter? And you've done ... nothing? You sound more like a salesman than a serviceman. All talk ... no action.

Sorry bud. You're going to have to do some of your own work now. =^..^=

I did replace the scanner unit, PBA, white reference on the first machine and that did not work. Otherwise, your process is sound.

I don't think that proves anything about the second machine. And early in that list I recall something about image memory, and HDD.

I think I might also plug in my power quality analyzer. =^..^=

I don't work on this model of Samsung, so take this with a grain of salt.
But I have seen where some non-Samsung machines will pick up the scan lines on printed color pictures when they line up with main scan (usually perpendicular to to the scanner carriages travel while scanning from the glass platen) and that can cause print defects. Rotating the original from LEF to SEF or vice versa usually takes care of that if the machine has image rotation. I didn't see where you had tried that yet (sorry if I missed it), so I thought I'd add my two cents.

Yeah, I might be over thinking it. I need to check it over this week and will update. Thanks for the input.
