If I understand your problem correctly, you are getting the distortion not in the direction of the scanner movement but across from it. If so, remove the glass and make sure the scanner moves freely...

Also on the C351 HDD is included as standard equipment so scanning options are much better.

If it was manufactured as a minolta machine, it should have a serial number sticker on the left side of the main body.
Then you can enter that number in tech mode, system 1.
