You are correct in this model the angles don't make the mp tray the best option. I would just choose heavy stock for tray 2 and print away. The glue from the labels will build up in the paper path...

this sounds like a torque limiter in the tray. if it is not moving it will rip the paper right in the middle and cause your jam RC2-5771. Worth a try
