The FRPO U6 setting is only for character encoding.
In a German manual it's more clearly stated: "Contry code ((Standard-) Symbolzeichensatz)" = "default character set"

I doubt it "reads" the power supply. But yes, it's theoretically possible. I have never seen a device doing that.
There are many ways, this could be determinated by the firmware: via jumper, switch,...
So should it be set to on or off?
