Well, to me, the regular stripes do not suggest a problem with dirt.
If you have a link to where I can find how to tear it down I would really appreciate that.
There are no visible screws, so...
"underside of glass"
The last time I tried to open up a scanner to clean the gunk off the glass, I cracked the glass trying to pry it out. These are not made to be user-serviceable.
There's...
Hope this is kosher here, the Canoscan is just a flatbed scanner, no printer. But presumably shares tech with MFPs.
I have a Canoscan Lide 700f, probably over 10 years old, the manual is dated...
Thanks... hope that's the case, so I will order a new cart and try to return or get a refund for this one.
Laserjet 2420
I was having print quality issues with a grey background and faint type.
So I bought a toner cartridge.
This is an original HP Q6511X. However, while still sealed, was several...
Well, yes, but I often do it towards the end of life to get a few more pages out. Never had any spray of toner.
Maybe when it's full it's a bad idea.
There was a little bit of sponge that came...
Bought a genuine HP Q6511X on eBay. Box was opened but the cart bag was sealed. Supposedly a "purchased in error" return.
Opening the bag, no loose toner and the cart looks clean. -- see photo....
Interesting, thanks for heads up.
Until recently I lived in Hong Kong, and ebay is uneconomic there, ridiculous shipping fees for almost all items.
More local vendors in Aust.
Still can't see a shield on the slot, or several mm inside it. No mention in the service manual.
But hopefully the problem is just the cartridge.
There's a slot above the cart, as image. No shutter or visible glass though. The laser unit is inside so presumably has the shield as part of it.
Won't go into there unless the new cart doesn't fix...
Yeah, that seems likely. I asked in the manuals forum for some docs on the cartridge and got a remanufacturer's manual.
That included a list of common problems:
Which describes the printout...
Thanks! Very helpful.
Looking for some docs for the HP toner cart Q6511X or Q6511A (or compatible,
for the LaserJet 2400 series printer)
https://tontech.com.ua/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/HP-Q6511X.jpg
It's not a HP cart, but not a refill. I'd done a thousand pages in the old printer with it over 18 months and quality was perfect.
Done another 500 or so since then hoping it would come good, but...
Thanks to tsbservice, who kicked off the thread:

Thanks tsbservice.
Could not start a new thread myself so needed an assist.
Same with me.
It seems "junior" members' threads in the tech forums must be approved. And no one is doing that now.
I can reply to others' threads, just not start my own.
Submitted a post for HP...
Hi, I work in DTP and have been using laserjets since the HPLJII.
Started in Hong Kong and now in Sydney, working from home. So looking after my own hardware.
Currently have a HP 2420
I signed...
So the site has one admin, who is AWOL? It can coast for a while, but sooner or later will be a problem and it'll crash.
I submitted a post yesterday in the HP forum, still in limbo.
I posted one...
I'm using XP with a LJ 2420. And I sometimes run a DOS program from 1987 that can print to it.
Most, perhaps all, laserjets run PCL and usually PostScript, even if they also have a newer print...
LaserJet 2420 grey background
Here's part of a page printed: 50402
Most of the left side of the page has a greyish irregular background, maybe 10% grey. The text is a bit faded and sometimes...
Brilliant!!
Thanks!!!
Would have been nice if that was in the manual.
These printers are pretty good, but taking them apart is like negotiating a video game.
To swap the cartridge door, I...
I have a newly acquired LJ2420 and noticed the left hinge on the cartridge door was broken.
I had another printer of the same model which was suffering terminal paperjams, so thought I would...
