You should print with only NC-504 but with GDI driver, for PCL you must have IC-209.

I have intermittent error C-5401 on few 1100 machines (cpu fan).

What do you mean whole unit?
As far i know there is developer powder bag and whole imaging unit assy for this machine and it is separate parts.
Imaging unit comes without developer...

Try OEM toner if you are not using it now.

Did you replace transfer belt cleaning blade?
Print some blank large format paper and then check does that black lines have repeating pattern.

Mark gears sides (take photo) before disassembling and put back the same way.
Right position can be noticed by looking shiny trail on the shaft because one way bearing inside gear is about half...
