That is the cleaning roller.. Have seen them become quite chattery out in field. It can easily be removed so I would assume another tech popped that off.. T

If machine is on network a bad packet sent over as print job will cause said actions.. Unplug cable and see if it will boot.. If so then must find print job causing trouble or just cancel all jobs on...
There is a dip switch you must turn on on mfp control board once switched the machine will boot up in sim 24-30....
Had similar symptoms on new 264 a month after install it turned out to be scanner control pwb in my case
I do not know of a sim to add mono button but what you could do is register a Program on home screen with desired scan settings so when they press icon scan will open up with settings you registered...
That there is actually part of roller had one look just like it.. It would still perform but we went and replaced with new MX 270FU1 rebuild would be more costly
Had this issue before also and one thing that helps is to ensure that phkbe line is a two wire like one that ships with machine and not a 4 wire line

Had a similar looking defect on an MX-2600 today. Process unit and Primary Belt were the first things that went through my mind also.. But upon close glance mine ended up being Fuser related......
