Re: Latest on the Corona Virus

I’ve read that all sorts of scams are at an all-time high.

The fact that so many of us are staying home gives the rotten bastards even more of a captive audience.

Re: One of the first Sharp fax brochures?

I never did actually see one, but I did learn about it when I went to Canon "fax basic" class back in '88.

I did, however, get to work on 2 or 3 Canon Fax 330s, which were Group 2 , and analog.

Re: One of the first Sharp fax brochures?

I think you’re referring to “Group 1”, or “Old FM Mode”.

Transmission time was 6 minutes for a letter size page. As there was no compression used, the transmission speed never really changed...

Re: One of the first Sharp fax brochures?

Ah, yes...the infamous Slerexe letter. You are correct.

    Talk about old memories!

I was really into fax in the late 80s and most of the 90s. That was the era of the fax boom.

    That page not...

    Re: Forum for service controlers?

We had one like that back in the 90’s. Her name was Linda.

By her request, we actually trained her on each model machine, hands on, in the demo room. Nothing extravagant, but the basics: How to...

Re: 307ci Printing Random "Wingdings" pages.

He has already changed the IP address; no difference.

The next step would be to change the host name. If the offender is using that, it would solve the problem.

Re: 307ci Printing Random "Wingdings" pages.

Changing just the IP address may not be enough.

I would change the host name, as well. If the offender is using that, the IP address wouldn't matter (as long as it's in the right subnet, of...

    Re: Power Requirements

    I totally agree.

Not only can problems be caused by the voltage going low, spikes can be introduced by anything that cycles, such as mentioned.

Those spikes can only be a millisecond or two,...
  12. [WTF] Re: The worst industry to install/service copiers for.

I once had a fax machine at a high school that was on the third floor; there was no elevator, only steps.

The only problem was that the school was in the worst possible part of town, where the...

    Re: Kobe Bryant dead

Kobe was far from being a diva.

He represented so much more than just basketball.

You didn't need to be a sports fan to appreciate what he brought to the world.

    He will be sorely missed.

Fax may change in how it performs and is implemented, but it’s not going anywhere in the foreseeable future.

    Re: Tech Support Lately

To the best of my knowledge, help desk folk are typically paid nowhere near that amount. There may be a few specialists who do, but they would be very few and far between.

My favorite is when they have no reasonable reply to whatever I call for, but then finish with “Is there anything else I can help you with today?”

Yeah, howzabout answering my original question....

Elementary schools are normally very easy to work with, while junior highs are a bit tougher.

[Misc] Re: Ricoh adding characters to card number

I doubt this can be resolved from the Ricoh side.

Did you check with the vendor of the card reader?

A lot of times they have a utility to create a profile which you download to the reader.
