Sharp AR-M355 Fuser Issue

I replaced both the Upper & Lower Heat Rollers On an AR-M355 a few months ago. Got a call the other day for a PM, and the client mentioned something about smugging on the copies. I looked things over and thought to look at the Upper Heat Roller. When I did, I noticed about 2" in on both ends, a build-up of Toner on the Roller about a 1/4 wide.

I looked things over but couldn't really see a reason for the build-up. I lowered the Fusing Temp Down to 175 degrees thinking this might help. It seemed strange that this would be on both ends, too.

Has anyone run into this issue, and if so, what was the fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does your customer run heavy paper stock? When you run a lot of heavy stock the paper draws heat out of the upper roller, cooling the ends of the heat roller. When the toner does not fuse properly to the paper, some of it is left stuck to the upper roller, and it can accumulate.

So my recommendation is to make sure that the customer is using the proper media setting, and possibly increasing the fuser temperature.

As Sharp products go Tigers & Jupiters have about the best fusers of the whole product line. =^..^=

I appreciate the reply. The normal setting for the Upper Heat Roller is 195. Is your suggestion to put it back to that setting or is there another number you had in mind?

175 is too low. The very lowest I might go is 185, but preferably closer to 195. I generally have not fiddled with fuser temperature too much on Sharp. When you rebuild the fuser are you replacing the heat sink roller? These machines have no other way of keeping the fuser clean. If the heat sink roller is built up 3mm thick with toner, it's not doing too much cleaning anymore. I recommend using the heat sink roller from the Tiger (NROLM1387FCZZ). There is a known issue with the original segmented Jupiter heat sink roller cleaning badly (NROLM1560FCZZ). =^..^=
