MX-4071 crashes when waking from sleep mode

When the user attempts to print, here is what happens:

    1) LCD lights.
    2) Unit makes noise as if it's warming up.
    3) 2-5 seconds.
    4) LCD turns off and unit goes quiet.
    5) About 10 seconds.
    6) Machine comes out of sleep mode.
    7) Document does not print, counter does not increment, and the document does not appear in the job history.

One workaround is to walk over to the machine, wake it up, then walk back to your desk and print your job, but the building is large, so they don't want to do that. They want to use sleep mode to save power, so disabling sleep mode is not really a solution.

This happens when printing from both Mac and PC.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: MX-4071 crashes when waking from sleep mode

Strange one, but sounds like a combination of causes, mainly regarding Energy Save Mode.
A 2-5 second panel wake-up then automatically turning off definitely sounds like an Energy Save settings issue rather than a print job not authenticating then being deleted.
Problem cannot be User Authentication if the job prints OK once manually woken up from sleep mode.
The printer sounds like it works fine when manually woken up.

Energy Save Mode -> Sleep Power Mode = Low Power setting AND Fix Transition Time > Auto Power Off Timer = Earliest.
I've seen this combination of Energy Save Settings cause similar problems, especially the engine not waking fully and turning off prematurely.

Change Sleep Power mode level to Fast Wake-up or Motion Sensor Mode, and Fix Transition Time to more than a few minutes. Also make sure Preheat Mode is set for a few minutes as well.

Make sure the Print Drivers are correct model and version is up to date.
Make sure the Firmware is up to date as well.

I once had a 3070N doing something similar, disabling SNMP in the TCIP port setup resolved the issue. I would also disable WSD from network settings/ print port settings,

If you have it set for a power off/on schedule, make sure the time is set correctly. If it is off by 12 hours then it will do that.

Re: MX-4071 crashes when waking from sleep mode

Sorry for the late reply on this. I just wanted to detail what has been tried thus far in case anyone has any other suggestions.

    - Tried all of the options for Sleep Power Mode.

    - Tried increasing energy save timers.

    - Print drivers are not an issue as we discovered the issue also happens when attempting to make copies.

    - Disabled SNMP and WSD.

    - No power off/on schedule because the device could receive jobs 24/7.

    - Moved the MFP to a different dedicated electrical circuit in case the building electrical was the problem.

    - Changed power conditioners.

No change to the symptoms. If anyone else has any other ideas, I'd appreciate it.

Any chance you've got a duplicate IP address happening here?
Bootup with the network cable removed. You mentioned it happens on copy mode as well, so a standalone device without network interference may help trace this problem.
Run a ping test with the device disconnected.

+1 on the IP conflict. Happens all the time.

Re: MX-4071 crashes when waking from sleep mode

could be something on the network that makes the machine crash...

We've had this with a client, only solution was placing the machine on a different VLAN (or block all ip adresses exept for the server? havent tested this yet...could be the server making the machine crash though...)
