    Re: RED READER JAM CODES

Do you still not have MICAS in Canada?

If not it would be intresting to know it one of your machines could be registered in MICAS and data collected from it.

I have seen weird jam codes showing in MICAS that I can't find info on. I have asked MICAS to address it but they said more than once they are waiting on Japan. I have never heard of RED Viewer.

    ya .. no micas here
are you guys a sharp dealer or sharp direct?
red reader can be downloaded from the sharp tech support web site (sharp.ca) not sure about sharp usa.
it decodes those files attached to the dealer alert status

    Re: RED READER JAM CODES

Small Sharp dealer. I searched IDNC Service for RED reader and got no hits. I assume it isn't available because we can use MICAS.

MICAS is really useful for many reasons. I can't understand why Sharp won't launch it in Canada. My techs can do a little research before heading out and take everything they need. There is also a mobile app that is nice.

I can get a SN from a seller of a used machine and plug it into MICAS. If was set up to report I can see the history of the machine and determine if ran well before I commit to buy it.

    Re: RED READER JAM CODES

    was curious of the cost
    is it per machine ?
    or just flat fee?
    or x dollars / 100 machines?
    also you mentioned setup.
I understand a program is installed on a system in the customers office is this correct? what else is involved?
lol i emailed micas and they never even replied to me. :/

    Re: RED READER JAM CODES

    Completely free.

Some dealerships will not use it out of fear that Sharp Business Systems could swoop in their area and have a list of machines already. I know enough about SBS not to fear them taking our accounts plus we are very rural and they would not open a branch in our territoy.

There are two ways to register a machine and this is how we do most of them. Create the Customer in MICAS, you could call them anything you want if you wanted to throw off SBS. Register a machine using the Model and SN. Set up the machine to send alerts to MICAS on a daily basis. Enter the MICAS email address in the Dealer slot in Alerts Messages and Status Messages. The daily send is used when nothing happens in 24 hours. All of the events trigger data to be sent to MICAS immediately. This method of registering allows me to see the history of a used machine before I buy it as long as it was set up to send to MICAS previously.

The other method to register is to install an Agent at the customers location. We use this method when there is a mixture of Sharp and Lexamrk devices that we service. The Agent will pick up any network printer/MFP but we only use it for our equipemnt. This method will fail if the PC or server with the Agent is replaced.

    Re: RED READER JAM CODES

    Interesting thread...altough I cannot contribute.
It appears from Sharp Us that actually RED is part of MICAS system
MICAS is a cloud-based device management application that uses Sharp's Remote Email Diagnostics (R.E.D.) to collect device data and alerts.

MICAS | Document Systems | MFPs | Sharp for business

    Re: RED READER JAM CODES

What is really interesting is that when I use the mobile version I can enter just a serial number of a machine we have never registered and isn't our machine and it pops back the model# along with infomation like total meter, toner level, events, firmware level and the last time there was a transaction. I assume that these machines have been reporting to gather this info but it isn't registered under our dealership and I can still get the info.

How useful is this? I got a list of off-lease equipment today and one of the machines I wanted to buy was listed with a 38K meter. I plug the SN in MICAS Mobile and it is showing 137,897.

    Re: RED READER JAM CODES

sounds like someone knows how to reset meters. check the paper tray counters and see if they add up to the total meter
