    drumunit charger thingy BP-DU70SA/SB Atlas/Titan

    Hello,

Does anybody know what the thingy in the picture is?

There is no reference to it in the service manual, nor in the parts guide.

It changes the pressure of the chargerroller on the drum itself.

But why? And what is the "default" setting?

One machine came out of the box with the rollers pressed against it, the next one was not.

There is also no sign of it in the MK kits BP700/BP702.

I think its a lock for the drum unit, refer to MAINTENANCE 9 – 52 in the service manual.

    Just figured it out...

Its to make sure the charge-roller isnt pressed against the drum in new machines.

When you remove the red label on the waste container, the things are pushed inside when installing the waste toner box.

    So its only for transport.

    Charge Roller Pressure Engagement/Release Lever.
During transport, the Charge Roller cannot be pressed against the drum surface, otherwise a thin band will be present on the drum surface.
Boutn is correct, removing the waste toner container locking pin during run-up will engage all Charge Roller Pressure engagement levers. If the Charge Rollers are not contacting the drum during use, expect a C1-20 trouble code.

What have you experienced with these being very light sensitive? Our tech rep made a special presentation on this and I now have 4 in the field? No training yet on these for us.

    Thank you.

Yes the new drums are extremely light sensitive. It is vital that upon removal that the drum is covered with multiple sheets of paper, placed under a towel/cloth or inside an old black drum bag to prevent light exposure.
Even 30 seconds of light exposure is enough to cause a faded section on each drum rotation. Have seen this and tested it myself. It can be fixed automatically, but can take several days or lots of print/copy to correct the problem. If the light exposure is too much, the drum cannot be fixed and needs to be replaced. Servicing these new models in an area of strong light source is not a good idea.
