I can't see ECM locking up the machine. Check your settings in Sim 26-6 and make sure your location is set correctly and also make sure your fax location is set properly in sim 66-2. As Wazza said make sure your memory is in the proper spot on the MFP. They move the slot around from model to model.

Both sim 26-06 and 66-02 are set correctly. The fax memory is installed correctly, (double checked with installation guide). It's been a week since we turned off ECM and not a problem since.
In my experience turning off ECM shouldn't do anything unless it not an analog line. Slowing down modem speed and disabling ECM improves digital/voip connections. But if it took care of your problem, we'll go with it.
