New fusing units have a spring that makes a circult.

When the rollers turn for the first time the spring disconnects breaking the circult which tells the machine it a new unit and it resets the PM counter automatically.

Alternatively you can manually reset the fuser PM counter using SP7804-016.
Or you can take plastic top off the fuser and reconnect the spring clip next to the gears.

Thanks DaZ, however that did not work. the original fuser did not have a spring at the end. the new fuser does but it is still atattched. I don't know how to enter service mode to manually reset the count. Any ideas.

Checkout section 5.1.1 and SP5803 of the service manual.
