C6560 / MJ-1103 possesed finisher

After first initialization and after about ten seconds the " Shutter Tray Assy" (page 4 part 21 of the parts book )will start to lift up for no apparent reason and when it gets to the top falls back down , then after about ten more seconds will do it again until you either turn off the machine or put it to sleep.
It does not do this after coming out of sleep mode.
One observation is I do not see the finisher tray move on initialization. It does move up and down slightly when you make a stapled set. I do not have another one to look at to see if the tray not moving on init. is normal. The unit does not display any jam or error codes.

I think that shutter movement is normal as far as I remember. As of the movable tray, if you open the top jam access cover you would see two holes into the plastic cover at the back, one of them is a service hole to lower the tray down. You can insert a screwdriver to lower the tray (hold the tray while doing this). Start the machine and it should move the tray to home position.

The proper test is to copy a few documents multiple times and observe tray movement and the shutter should lower down in this copy mode.

I apolagize I did not specify that after the unit is turned on and comes to ready without any jobs being run this starts to hapen and it happens over and over so it is not normal operation . I will try stepping the tray down and seeing if it comes back to home position. I would believe that if it did not it would throw some sort of code.

If you take a look at the guide section that's moving, you'll see that there's a leaf spring that drops into a hole to hold the piece up. If that leaf spring is weak or gets bent it will do exactly as you describe. Just re- form the leaf spring. =^..^=

That was it. Took me a little bit to figure out what leaf springs you were talking about , pulled them forward a touch and that resolved the issue.
Did not know that sections normal position at rest it up.

I did. I'm embarrassed to say I replaced a finisher controller on my first time.
