    toshiba 281C drum replacement

I would like to know if it is really essential to remove the Main Charger Unit to replace the Drum or it is possible to replace the Drum without removing the Main Charger Unit.

    Manual says
    [C] Drum
    Take off the process unit
    ( P.11-10 "[B] Process unit").
Take off the main charger unit (
    P.11-15
    "[D] Main charger unit").
Remove 1 screw on the front side and 1
screw on the rear side. Then loosen 1 screw
on the front side and disconnect 1 connector.

Looking at figure n.11.21 (service manual) it seems that you can remove the Drum without first removing the
    Main Charger Unit.

Thank you all for your attention.

The Main Charge Unit does not get in the way of removing the Drum, but in the process of removing the Drum, there will always be toner spilled into the Main Charge Unit. Also, if you are replacing the Drum, you should also replace Drum Cleaning Blade. You will need to remove the Main Charge in order to do that.
On a side note, I'm sorry you still have to work on those models.

Best left in the museum as an example why NOT to build carousel type color MFP's.

I wonder what would happen if you were to turn the developing units like a rock tumbler the whole time you were developing every single page? This would happen. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
